Aesteem draws inspiration from the modern touch and swipe movements we have become accustomed to in our electronic devices. By incorporating this familiar gesture into a mechanical lightswitch, Stichelbaut has created a design that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

What sets Aesteem apart from other lightswitches is its perfect square shape and the sliding movement it employs. With a slight pressure on each part, the mechanical system is set in motion, smoothly turning the light on or off. Once the desired action is completed, the switch automatically returns to its original position, adding a touch of elegance to any space.

The realization of this design required meticulous attention to detail. Stichelbaut collaborated with partners who shared his commitment to quality and innovation. The molds had to be precisely designed to ensure the smooth sliding movement of the switch. This dedication to perfection is evident in the final product.

Measuring at 92x92x16mm, Aesteem is compact yet impactful. Its minimalist design and functionality make it a versatile addition to any interior. LED lights can also be integrated on the backside, enhancing its visibility and adding a touch of sophistication.

Installation and servicing of Aesteem have been made incredibly easy. With only two separate parts, technical installation can be done without damaging the finishing part. Once the equipment to be controlled is connected, mounted, and tested, a simple click on the finishing part completes the installation process.

The Aesteem lightswitch project started in 2012 and was completed in April 2014. It was launched at the "Biënnale Interieur" in Kortrijk, Belgium. Throughout the design process, Stichelbaut faced the challenge of creating a durable and user-friendly mechanical system. The result is an experience that allows users to feel and hear the movement as they swipe or press the switch, providing a sense of authenticity and craftsmanship.

Aesteem has received recognition for its outstanding design. In 2015, it was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in the Building Materials and Construction Components category. This prestigious award celebrates designs that demonstrate exceptional expertise, innovation, and artistic skill.
